Saguna and Vimmi are partnering on a video content delivery solution for mobile operators based on the Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) standard. The joint solution features Vimmi's Mobile Delivery Network (MDN) and Saguna's Open-RAN MEC platform.

The joint solution is intended to let mobile operators deploy video services at the radio edge, in close proximity to mobile users.

The Saguna Open-RAN MEC platform is designed to create an open ecosystem for third-party applications inside the mobile radio access network (RAN). The ETSI MEC standard-based solution is intended to enable mobile operators to deploy new revenue-generating services for Internet-of-things (IoT), cyber security, virtual probes, content delivery and augmented reality applications.

Vimmi's MDN solution uses grid computing and machine learning technologies to enable delivery of video quality at a lower operational cost. The solution is designed to reduce 70%-90% of mobile backhaul traffic while improving QoE, and also to reduce round trip time for video and IoT applications, with the goal of achieving 5G performance in 4G networks.

The companies will showcase the combined solution at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, scheduled for Feb. 27-March 2.
