ADVA Optical Networking ALM16 - Proactive Fiber Monitoring

Sept. 26, 2017
The ADVA ALM can concurrently monitor up to 16 fibers by feeding an optical test signal into the data-carrying fiber at unused spectrum, enabling fully non-intrusive monitoring of the fiber plant.

The ADVA ALM can concurrently monitor up to 16 fibers by feeding an optical test signal into the data-carrying fiber at unused spectrum, enabling fully non-intrusive monitoring of the fiber plant.

Scattered and reflected light from the test signal is used to calculate the loss profile of a fiber link. In-service fiber monitoring provides precise real-time information about integrity of the physical fiber infrastructure and the data transported over it. It can also quickly detect intrusions that threaten network integrity, regardless of whether the services and applications provided on top of the dark fiber use uncolored, CWDM or DWDM optics. Different from traditional OTDR measurement equipment, the ADVA ALM was developed for scalability of in-service monitoring. The product is designed as a carrier-grade product to meet environmental and mechanical design requirements of service providers. It features a wide set of management interfaces for easy integration with any network management system (NMS). What's more, the ADVA ALM is already integrated into commonly applied graphical information systems (GIS) for precise localization for fiber breaks.
