ZCorum plans to showcase a new Remote MAC-PHY solution for cable operators at The Independent Show in Anaheim, CA, from July 29-Aug. 1.
At the show, the company will introduce a line of Remote MAC-PHY CMTS intended to provide cable operators an economical way to deploy Distributed Access Architecture (DAA). Remote MAC-PHY places a small CMTS in the node rather than in the headend.
"With Remote MAC-PHY, you reduce the amount of fiber and avoid a lot of cost and complexity," said Arthur Skinner, ZCorum's vice president of worldwide sales. "It also reduces power and space requirements in the headend." Skinner added that having a small CMTS in the field helps address smaller, more remote service areas that independent operators often have.
ZCorum will also be demonstrating SetTop VU, an application designed to provide visibility into set-top boxes to help operators identify issues that can cause a poor video experience.
"SetTop VU cuts down on call center talk time and unnecessary truck rolls by giving staff the ability to view status and diagnostic information remotely," said Carlos Bustamante, ZCorum's vice president of strategic technologies. "We also provide TV viewership analytics that measure the rating, share, reach and minutes viewed on any program. This lets operators see exactly which channels and programs are most popular with their subscribers."
"We're excited to showcase SetTop VU, and our cost-effective CMTS line to NCTC members," said Julie Compann, CEO at ZCorum. "We look forward to meeting with operators at the conference and demonstrating the value of these products firsthand."
