Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN) says it has completed its initiative to double the availability of 100 Mbps Kinetic Internet Service approximately six weeks ahead of schedule.

The 100 Mbps Internet tier is now available to approximately 34% of households in local exchanges across Windstream's 18-state footprint. When the initiative was announced Jan. 14, the company anticipated it could make the service available to 30% of households by the end of March. The work was completed in mid-February, six weeks early. The company expects 100 Mbps to be available to approximately 40% of households passed by mid-year.

In addition, 50 Mbps service is now available to 50% of households passed, up from 40% at the end of 2018. Similarly, 25 Mbps is now available to 64% of households passed, up from approximately 60% at the end of 2018.

"At Windstream, we are passionate about delivering premium Internet speeds to more families and businesses across rural America," said Jeff Small, president of the company's consumer and small and medium-sized business segment. "We have taken steps to speed up our broadband deployment process, and that's nothing but good news for some of the most rural communities in the nation."
