AT&T Ponies Up for Network Upgrades

AT&T (NYSE:T) has announced plans to invest $14 billion over the next three years to expand and upgrade its wireless and wireline IP broadband networks. The telco plans to expand its wireline IP network to 57 million customer locations by year-end 2015, and also to grow its 4G LTE network to cover 300 million people by year-end 2014.AT&T plans to expand U-verse (TV, Internet, VoIP) to about 8.5 million additional customer locations by about year-end 2015 and to offer U-verse IPDSLAM service (high-speed IP Internet access and VoIP) to 24 million customer locations by year-end 2013. Also planned are upgrades for U-verse to speeds of up to 75 Mbps and for U-verse IPDSLAM to speeds of up to 45 Mbps.The telco also plans to expand its fiber network to reach an additional 1 million business customer locations in its wireline service area.
