Alcatel-Lucent Aims for Gigabit Plus
At SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014, Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE:ALU) is announcing updates to its optical fiber access solution for cable operators. Alcatel-Lucent's EPON solution for MSOs is based on the company's 7360 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) FX, which has been certified for DPoE by CableLabs. The solution also introduces DPoE 2.0 Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) services specifications.
Alcatel-Lucent has introduced a DPoE eight-port 10G EPON linecard for the 7360 ISAM FX, intended to allow MSOs to provision and deliver 1 Gbps and higher services. It's designed to allow more simultaneous high-speed services on a single fiber and on a single OLT chassis. It also has new ONTs: a 10G EPON ONT for both business and residential services, and an EPON ONT specifically for residential services.
