According to Vertical Systems Group, cable is the fastest growing segment in its Ethernet LEADERBOARD rankings. Spectrum Enterprise (Charter), Comcast, Cox, and Altice USA have gained a position on the 2016 LEADERBOARD, which ranks cable operators in order based on U.S. retail Ethernet port share for the segment. Research sources for share calculations include Vertical Systems Group's base of enterprise installations, plus direct input from biannual surveys of network providers selling data network services in the U.S. market.

Each of the four MSOs has also achieved either a LEADERBOARD rank or a Challenge Tier citation on the 2016 U.S. Carrier Ethernet LEADERBOARD.

Cable MSO is one of three U.S. provider segments, along with the Incumbent Carrier and Competitive Provider segments.

"Once again, Cable MSO was the fastest growing of the three U.S. Ethernet provider segments," said Rick Malone, principal at Vertical Systems Group. "This segment realigned in 2016 with Spectrum Enterprise rising to the top as a result of Charter's acquisitions of Time Warner Cable and Bright House. Additionally, Altice USA advanced as a major player in the Cable MSO segment on combined Ethernet ports from its acquisitions of Suddenlink and Lightpath."

Other companies in the Cable MSO segment include (in alphabetical order) Consolidated Communications, RCN Business, WOW!Business and other cable companies selling retail U.S. Ethernet services.
