Municipal Internet service provider FairlawnGig plans to expand its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service beyond the Fairlawn, OH, city limits to include communities within the Greater Akron Region in Ohio. FairlawnGig has been providing fiber-optic Internet service since the winter of 2017. Currently the company offers symmetrical 100 Gbps connections to business customers and 10 Gbps connections to households.
"Every day we're approached by organizations as well as households in the region asking to bring our world-class service to their communities," said Ernie Staten, deputy director of Public Service at City of Fairlawn Ohio. "Until now, we've been focused on Fairlawn, but are pleased that just 18 months after we started serving Fairlawn in the winter of 2017, we're able to expand to surrounding communities."
In addition to residential and business Internet services, FairlawnGig also offers home phone service. There are no equipment fees, data caps or long term contracts. A residential router and WiFi access point are included in the FairlawnGig ONT. Residential gigabit FTTH service is $75 a month, and a 300 Mbps option is available for $55 a month. Gigabit business service is $500 a month.
"We're thrilled to be the rising tide that raises all boats and brings economic opportunities and innovation to the region," said Staten. "Communities like downtown Akron and Medina County can now harness the business-attracting and growing engine that is ultra-fast Internet service."
