Docomo Pacific taps Adara for bandwidth reclamation, DOCSIS expansion

June 16, 2020
Significantly, Adara notes that its Bandwidth Reclamation Solution suite leverages “codec-awareness.”

Adara Technologies Inc. (Toronto, ON), today announced that Docomo Pacific, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT DOCOMO and Japan’s leading mobile operator, is the latest cable operator to choose to deploy the Adara Bandwidth Reclamation Solution suite.

Adara maintains that, among many its distinctive features, the bandwidth reclamation platform deploys without any customer disruption, giving operators the bandwidth they need quickly, and, as per the company, "minus the major customer revenue losses typically associated with massively customer-disruptive and costly techniques such as forced analog reclamation."

Adara says the Bandwidth Reclamation Solution suite's key benefit is how it can quickly free up significant amounts of operator bandwidth and be immediately used for multi-Gigabit Broadband expansion using DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1 or 4.0 (full duplex). This is especially important now as providers look to respond aggressively to increased bandwidth demands brought on by the COVID-19 crisis.

Significantly, Adara notes the platform leverages “codec-awareness” – a unique feature that distinguishes, for example, between MPEG2- and MPEG4-capable set-top boxes, thereby enabling the significant bandwidth efficiencies of MPEG4by decreasing the need for "costly, customer-disruptive and time- consuming forklift replacement of remaining MPEG2 set-tops," as styled by a company press release.

Docomo Pacific is also the largest provider of fixed, wireless, internet and cable services in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

“Our solution will be utilized by Docomo to free up bandwidth for several key business initiatives,” said Joseph Nucara, CEO and co-founder of Adara.
