De acuerdo con Dell'Oro Group, se prevé que el mercado de redes definidas por software (SDN) crezca más de 65% en 2014, a comparación de 2013. Con la ratificación de las arquitecturas y las implementaciones de producción en camino, se estima que los dispositivos de seguridad de redes y conmutadores Ethernet continúen causando el mayor impacto en las SDN, lo que promoverá que las SDN se propaguen más allá de los principales proveedores de servicios de nube. La firma de investigación prevé una evolución hacia 10 GigE en empresas y 25 10 GigE en la nube.
