Vianet Communications to build fiber broadband network across Nepal
Vianet Communications P. Ltd. says it has contracted with Nokia to supply equipment for a new fiber broadband network across Nepal. The service provider plans to connect 200,000 users by the end of this year with services of at least 100 Mbps.
The service provider plans to use GPON technology to support such services as UHD/4K video, IPTV, online video streaming, virtual reality, multiscreen delivery. Vianet first launched fiber to the home (FTTH) services in 2011 and partnered with NET TV to offer IPTV via FTTH in 2016. The service provider currently serves more than 10 districts in Nepal via 18 customer service centers, with plans to extend its fiber broadband footprint into another four districts by the year end. The Government of Nepal and Nepal Telecommunications Authority also has charged Vianet with building an FTTH network in Sudurpashchim Pradesh (Province 7).
