USA Communications is a cable operator with assets in California, Colorado, and Nebraska as well as Alabama. The Alabama network serves residents and businesses in the area around Pell City. "Since 1995, USA Communications has been dedicated to providing the latest technology to the communities we serve,” commented Chris Hilliard, CEO for USA Communications. “We are proud of what we have accomplished with this system over the last few years, but as we look toward the future of communications and entertainment services, it is our belief that Hargray's larger scale and unique combination of technological expertise and community focus makes them the best possible choice to provide advanced telecommunications services to our communities."

Along these lines, Hargray says it plans to invest over the next year to expand the capabilities and service mix offered to USA Communications’ current Alabama customers. Hargray’s goal is to provide residents with 100-Mbps internet, improved Wi-Fi, TV, and home phone services. Business customers will see enhanced data, voice, and video services that include hosted unified communications, metro Ethernet, symmetrical and asymmetrical internet, and customized video services.

"On behalf of our almost 600 Hargray colleagues, we are pleased to announce our agreement to acquire the Alabama assets of USA Communications,” said Hargray Chairman and CEO Michael Gottdenker. “We look forward to building upon USA Communications' recent network investments and will deliver the fastest Internet service in town, a very high quality residential video service, and superior communications products and solutions to the businesses in the USA Communications' service territory."

This acquisition follows the purchase last May of ComSouth, a service provider in Georgia (see “Hargray acquires ComSouth to extend southeast network”).
