UK home to two of five biggest European data center campuses: DataCentrePricing.Com report
Two of the top five third-party data center campuses in Europe are in the UK, according to a new report from DataCentrePricing.Com (DCP). The largest such campus is in Germany, however, says the company in “Data Centre Clusters in Europe 2019 – The Key Hot Spots.”
The largest data center city clusters are Frankfurt, London and the Inner M25, Paris, Amsterdam, and Slough, according to the report. Frankfurt is “marginally” the largest, estimates DCP, with more than 277,500 square meters of space. The UK is home of 5 of the 20 largest third-party centers in Europe, DCP adds.
However, much of the growth in data center construction will be found outside of the UK over the next four years. Rome is the fastest growing city hub at 60% for the next four years, with floor space in Amsterdam increasing at 58% and in Dublin and Geneva by 57%. However, Frankfurt should maintain its lead, at least in the near term, as its floor space also will grow by 58%, DCP estimates.
DCP reports a wide range in average data center pricing, with highs of €1,392 per month per rack (Zurich) and Euro €1,354 per month per rack (London & the Inner M25 area) to lows of €452 per month per rack (Warsaw) and Euro €530 per month per rack (Prague). Overall, DCP forecasts that average pricing in the top 20 city clusters, as measured by rack space or square-meter rentals, will decline by almost 8% from the end of 2018 to the end of 2022 as capacity across Europe becomes more plentiful.
The “DCP Data Centre Clusters in Europe 2018 – The Key Hot Spots” report provides analysis of the 20 largest third-party data center city clusters and surveys the key data center facilities, the raised floor space, customer power, and average pricing, with a four-year forecast from the end of 2018 to the end of 2022. The report is available for GBP £2,000 for a single user license.
