Windstream Wholesale to expand fiber network with route from Los Angeles to Dallas
Windstream Wholesale, the fiber-optic services arm of Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN), said it will continue expansion of its 100G, nationwide fiber network with a new southern route from Los Angeles to Dallas. The service provider expects the route to be completed by the third quarter of 2018.
The new route provides wholesale and resale markets with access to the company's cloud-optimized connectivity suite, including optical wavelengths, MEF 2.0 Certified Carrier Ethernet, and MPLS dedicated Internet access (DIA). Adding about 1,700 miles to Windstream's existing coast-to-coast long-haul network, the route will link to the high-density Phoenix, AZ fiber network.
Phoenix has a metro population that is nearing 5 million, making it one of the nation's fastest growing cities, and a key technology center, says Windstream. According to Forbes, affordable living expenses and a knowledgeable workforce are attracting large tech companies to the city. The service provider's presence in this market supplies low cost access to the increased network diversity opportunities, advanced reliability, and growing bandwidth capacity that are important to business customers driven by data.
Windstream is extending availability of its high-speed, scalable, and secure transport services, enabling customers to improve their cloud migration and digital transformation strategies, including major enterprise organizations, ISPs, hyperscale cloud operators, international carriers, and streaming content providers.
"Phoenix has become a robust tech market with several key data centers and colocation facilities on our existing fiber assets and is a strategic part of our network growth strategy," said Mike Shippey, president of Wholesale at Windstream Enterprise and Wholesale. "We look forward to competing aggressively in the market by expanding our efficient, diverse, high-bandwidth service capabilities and network to provide our customers the solutions they need to boost their competitive edge."
In addition to Arizona, Windstream has expanded its footprint by enhancing its fiber-optic network and other assets in Georgia (see "Windstream to expand Georgia network").
Windstream provides wavelengths, Ethernet services, DIA, SD-WAN wholesale, cloud SIP and PRI, and various network and communications services to wholesale and resale customers.
