LOGIX renamed LOGIX Fiber Networks after finalizing Alpheus Communications acquisition

Jan. 8, 2018
LOGIX Communications says it has finalized the previously announced acquisition of fiber-optic network services provider Alpheus Communications, and the combined company has been renamed LOGIX Fiber Networks. The acquisition positions the fiber-optic bandwidth infrastructure services provider to be a major independent provider in Texas, says the company. Details of the transaction's financial terms were not disclosed.

LOGIX operates its high-performance data center facilities in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston (the DASH markets), and will gain network scale and offering expansion in these markets with the transaction's completion, says the company. Additionally, LOGIX will connect to 75 other data centers in Texas.

Alpheus Communications began the second phase of its planned fiber-optic network extension in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, TX in 2015 (see "Alpheus Communications to spread fiber network footprint in Texas"). With the acquisition of Alpheus, LOGIX has more than 5,800 route miles of network covering 180,000 fiber miles, and serves over 12,500 enterprise and carrier customers throughout the large, growing Texas markets.

As part of the transaction, David Dane became the chief executive officer (CEO) of LOGIX, succeeding interim CEO Matthew Murphy, co-founder, and partner of Astra Capital Management. A Washington, D.C.-based private equity firm that invests in growth businesses in the communications and technology services, Astra is LOGIX's equity sponsor leading the transaction's negotiation, execution, and funding.

"LOGIX has been successfully transformed by the exceptional direction of our management team that came on board when Astra bought the company in 2016," said Murphy, who remains executive chairman of the LOGIX board of directors. "The expanded network created from this acquisition perfectly positions LOGIX to capitalize on the enormous opportunities we see in our markets."
