Metronode data center chosen to land submarine cable connecting Singapore to Perth
Australian data center provider Metronode says its Shenton Park facility has been chosen as the landing station for a major submarine cable to connect Singapore to Perth via Indonesia. The company did not name the submarine network, but its description matches that of the Australia Singapore Cable Vocus now has under construction (see "Australia Singapore Cable deployment reportedly ahead of schedule").
"We are delighted the cable will land at Metronode's Shenton Park data center, which confirms its premier location in Perth and our decision to further expand facilities to accommodate the expected growth from cloud, Government and enterprise customers," said David Yuile, Metronode CEO. "It will also provide unparalleled opportunity for clients in Metronode's facility to connect and do business with South-East Asia."
According to Yuile, the new undersea cable will be finished by early 2019, and will benefit the local economy and Australia by delivering access to South-East Asia.
Metronode is also in the final negotiation stages of expanding the Shenton Park facilities with the addition of adjacent land at the site, the company says. The land acquisition at Shenton Park is in addition to a $150 million construction program that the company launched this year.
Metronode designs, builds, and operates secure, low PUE facilities across Australia. Of its 10 facilities, the Shenton Park facility is one of four Metronode data centers to be awarded a NABERS 4.5-star data center rating.
Metronode has built and opened new facilities for an 8-MW hyperscale international customer that it has yet to name at Derrimut, Melbourne, and finished construction of a new data hall at Unanderra Wollongong. The company says it is also in the final construction stages for new facilities on its Silverwater Sydney site.
