Giggle Fiber to deploy Calix AXOS Gfast, GPON technology for fiber-optic network expansion

Calix, Inc. (NYSE:CALX) says it will supply its AXOS Gfast and GPON technology with Calix GigaCenters to Giggle Fiber (no, not Google – Giggle). Giggle Fiber currently serves Arcadia and Monrovia in eastern Los Angeles county, and is unveiling a local option for high-speed data services as it broadens its fiber-optic network footprint in southern California.

Giggle Fiber will use the Calix AXOS E5-16F for Gfast service delivery in both residential and business MDUs/MTUs, and the Calix E7-2 for residential broadband services over GPON to provide these communities access to gigabit speeds for the first time, according to Calix. Giggle Fiber says its expansion will also bring competition into the area.

"We have seen the demand for over-the-top services skyrocket in recent years, and the subscribers in this area need a service provider with a reliable network that can deliver those services without fail. Enter Giggle Fiber," said Herbert Villalobos, Giggle Fiber vice president of engineering. "With our Calix-based network in place and our local presence in the community, we know we have a competitive advantage over the other national providers who serve the area. At Giggle Fiber, we are committed to maintaining that edge and keeping on the forefront of technology with our end-to-end network optimized for gigabit service delivery potential, and giving our subscribers the best broadband experience possible."

According to Calix, Giggle Fiber plans to offer managed Wi-Fi services with a combination of Calix 804Mesh technology for complete home coverage, and Calix Cloud for experience quality management. This line of end-to-end technology across copper and fiber will enable Giggle Fiber to provide differentiated services and reliable OTT services delivery anywhere in their target markets, Calix says.

Earlier this year, Calix announced that it can support symmetrical gigabit broadband services through recent additions to its AXOS G.fast line, and explained that the 844FB GigaCenter and the 801FB GigaPoint now perform the customer premises gigabit support tasks (see "Calix claims G.fast gigabit broadband support"). The bonding-capable Gfast 844FB GigaCenters will provide gigabit-capable wireless support for MDU subscribers, and the 844GE and 844G GigaCenters will supply gigabit-capable Wi-Fi to fiber-connected subscribers, says Calix.
