MicroCare Corp. says it has expanded its Sticklers fiber-optic cleaning line with the addition of its CleanWipes 640 optical-grade cleaning wipes. The CleanWipes 640 wipes are designed to clean fiber optic connector end-faces as well as bare fiber prior to fusion splicing.
An update to the CleanWipes 400 cleaning tool, the CleanWipes 640 provides an increase of over 60% in cleaning capacity to 640. Unlike the CleanWipes 400's four cleaning slots, the CleanWipes 640 package has eight CleanSwipe cleaning slots, which enables technicians to perform many cleanings on one piece of fabric without re-using any of the wipes.
Since the pitch of the cleaning slots is tighter than the previous product, the new package can clean duplex connectors to avoid disassembly time, says MicroCare. The CleanWipes 640 slots are color-coded for industry recognition and memory aid using the TIA-598-D scheme. The inner box static-dissipative lining is improved to end static-generated contamination.
The CleanWipes 640 uses what MicoCare describes as a "high-modulus" wiping fabric. Unlike cellulose wipes, CleanWipes 640 wipes can diminish electrostatic charges, the company asserts. Although paper wipes composed of cellulose and glue are prone to shredding, this fabric is not, even when cleaning LC connectors, MicroCare says.
Fingerprints, oils, grime, polishing compounds, dust, and lint can be cleaned off connectors with one swipe of end-faces in the CleanSwipe slots, the company asserts. The wipes are dispensed ready-to-use, and packaged in a plastic box so cleaning can be maintained in wet, dusty, or otherwise compromising field-service conditions. Lenses, mirrors, diffraction gratings, prisms, and test equipment can also be cleaned with the CleanWipes 640 wipes.
No assembly is necessary for the CleanWipes 640 wipes. According to Sticklers, the CleanWipes 640 will be shipping September 15.
