The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) says its previously announced interoperability demonstration of the Transport Application Programming Interface (T-API) standard from the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) is nearing completion (see "OIF, ONF plan SDN T-API transport API interoperability demonstration"). That means it's almost time to share the results. The OIF says it plans to hold invitation-only "read-out events" at China Telecom, Telefonica, and Verizon for participating companies. The rest of the world will have to wait until OFC next March, where the group plans to offer a public read-out on March 21 at the show in Los Angeles.
A technical white paper and an executive summary of the demonstration should become available in early February 2017 as well.
The demonstration, which began in October and ran through early this month, built on a demonstration of Transport SDN technology the OIF and ONF held two years ago (see "OIF and ONF enjoy joint Transport SDN demonstration success"). That effort helped sharpen understanding of the requirements for an interface such as T-API. The new demonstration gave participants a glimpse into how well a more mature T-API would work in a transport SDN environment.

"This demo provided interesting and important results and key findings and was worthwhile for China Telecom to participate."
The OIF did not reveal when the invitation-only read-outs will occur. The group will host the public event March 21 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in Theater III of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Additional information can be found on the OFC 2017 website.
