Padtec to deploy submarine cable network for Google

Brazilian optical transport technology company Padtec says it has received a contract from Google to deploy a submarine cable network the Web 2.0 company has commissioned to link Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The 390-km undersea cable network, dubbed Junior in honor of Brazilian painter José Ferraz de Almeida Júnior, should achieve operational status in the second half of 2017, according to Padtec.

Brazilian optical transport technology company Padtec says it has received a contract from Google to deploy a submarine cable network the Web 2.0 company has commissioned to link Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The 390-km undersea cable network, dubbed Junior in honor of Brazilian painter José Ferraz de Almeida Júnior, should achieve operational status in the second half of 2017, according to Padtec.

Padtec will supply its submarine optical line amplifiers (see "Padtec submarine network repeaters pass installation tests") as well as its LightPad i6400G submarine line terminal equipment (SLTE). It also will supply project planning, management, and execution services.

The submarine network will land at Praia da Macumba Beach in Rio de Janeiro and Praia Grande Beach in Baixada Santista. Google will leverage the undersea fiber-optic network as part of an expansion of its Latin American data transmission infrastructure.
