Wave2Wave Solution has extended its ROME Robotic Optical Management Engine platforms. The new additions to the existing ROME 360, which include the ROME 500, 1000, and 2000 automated optical switching systems, are designed to enable fully automatic, remote control of data center optical network reconfigurations.

The company says that automated optical platforms have become the preferred approach to cross-connect requirements in rapidly expanding data center networks versus manual intervention. The use of optical platforms improves reliability, future proofing, and cost-efficiency, Wave2Wave asserts.

Features of the new optical switching systems include:

  • ROME 500: 512 fiber connections (either single-mode or multimode OM4); 256 LC duplex ports or 512 LC simplex ports; support of 10G, 100G transport, Fibre Channel (8G, 16G, and 32G), etc.
  • ROME 1000: 1,024 OM4 fiber connections, 128 MTP ports, and support of QSFP+ (40G), QSFP28 (100G), Infiniband, etc.
  • ROME 2000: 2,048 OM4 fiber connections, 256 MTP ports, and support of QSFP+ (40G), QSFP28 (100G), Infiniband, etc.

The ROME platforms are designed to operate in software-defined networking (SDN) environments as well as with other network management software approaches. The ROME 500, 1000, and 2000 platforms are designed in 19-inch chassis. In addition to data center operators, Wave2Wave expects the platforms to appeal to telcos, enterprises with IT infrastructure, and large technology test labs.

The ROME 500 is now available worldwide; the ROME 1000 and 2000 will become available in the second half of 2016.
