Menara Networks shipping direct detect 100G CFP optical transceivers for metro, data center interconnect

Menara Networks says it has begun volume shipments of a tunable DWDM 100G CFP MSA optical transceiver for metro and data center interconnect applications via direct detection. The company simultaneously has made its 100G Wave Master wavelength tuning, configuration, and BER tester available as well.

Menara Networks says it has begun volume shipments of a tunable DWDM 100G CFP MSA optical transceiver for metro and data center interconnect applications via direct detection. The company simultaneously has made its 100G Wave Master wavelength tuning, configuration, and BER tester available as well.

The CFP optical module offers dual-rate, full C-band tunable performance. The optical transceiver will accept either 100 Gigabit Ethernet or OTU-4 client signals and will support both 4x25-Gbps and 4x28-Gbps wavelength operation. Each DWDM channel can be independently tuned across the entire C-band 50 GHz grid. Rather than coherent transmission, the module leverages the optical duo-binary (ODB) modulation format.

Other features include integrated PRBS generation and checking for link check and ease of deployment, power consumption of less than 24 W, and compatibility with all major routers and MPLS switches, Menara says.

Siraj Nour ElAhmadi, Menara co-founder and CEO, says the company has already shipped "several hundred units" of the CFP so far.

"The links ranging up to 300 km were often turned up on existing 10G DWDM infrastructure without the prohibitive cost, footprint, and power of a coherent solution," ElAmhadi continued. "In fact, across Europe, USA, and South America, our customers deployed our metro DWDM CFP directly into their routers without the need to dedicate valuable space in their data centers for 100G DWDM transponders."

Meanwhile, the Wave Master is a companion product to the CFP designed to simplify and streamline 100G link turn up and testing. Menara says the Wave Master features a simple graphical interface to allow the user to tune each channel wavelength individually, run full diagnostics on the DWDM CFP, and run BER tests for link characterization.
