Coriant upgrades Transcend SDN Transport Controller

Optical transport systems vendor Coriant has unveiled a new release of its Coriant Transcend SDN Transport Controller. The latest version of the company's software-defined networking (SDN) product, which is focused on implementation in multi-layer, multi-vendor networking environments, aims to enhance multi-layer optimization and standards-based service interworking. The result is to simplified operations, faster service provisioning, and improved resource use in multi-vendor fiber-optic network environments, Coriant asserts.

Optical transport systems vendor Coriant has unveiled a new release of its Coriant Transcend SDN Transport Controller. The latest version of the company's software-defined networking (SDN) product, which is focused on implementation in multi-layer, multi-vendor networking environments, aims to enhance multi-layer optimization and standards-based service interworking. The result is to simplified operations, faster service provisioning, and improved resource use in multi-vendor fiber-optic network environments, Coriant asserts.

Coriant introduced the Transcend SDN Controller last year (see "Coriant offers SDN suite"). The upgrades include:

  • More efficient service interworking via support for the IETF RESTCONF interface and YANG data modeling language.
  • Easier service provisioning through changes to the platform's service-level agreement (SLA) based service provisioning engine. These include new automated and programmable service provisioning and management capabilities, including SLA monitoring and user-defined SLA parameters.
  • Improved resource utilization via an optical impairment-aware multi-layer Path Computation Element (PCE). Operators can now employ network resources according to service requests and SLA parameters.
  • Flexible network partitioning thanks to network virtualization and varying levels of network abstraction.

"The lack of efficient interworking in multi-vendor transport networks makes it challenging for network operators to meet dynamic, high-capacity service demands in a fast, cost-effective, and profitable way," said Uwe Fischer, Coriant's CTO. "We've taken a highly focused approach to our SDN developments to give our customers the tools to easily apply SDN-enabled automation, programmability, and control to practical applications like rapid service creation in multi-layer IP/optical networks."

Customers have deployed the Coriant Transcend SDN Transport Controller in trial environments, the company says.
