ADVA Optical Networking enhances FSP 3000 CloudConnect data center interconnect platform

ADVA Optical Networking has upgraded its FSP 3000 CloudConnect platform. The data center interconnect system now supports two more client-side data rates and offers new multiplexing and amplification capabilities.

ADVA Optical Networking has upgraded its FSP 3000 CloudConnect platform. The data center interconnect system now supports two more client-side data rates and offers new multiplexing and amplification capabilities.

The optical transport systems vendor introduced the FSP 3000 CloudConnect this past June (see "ADVA offers 'not too small' data center interconnect optical transport platform"). While offering power consumption of less than half a watt per gigabit/second and full functional integration, perhaps its most unique characteristic is its size. Rather than target the 1RU package of competing offerings, ADVA Optical Networking released the CloudConnect in 4RU and 12 RU chassis, with the claim that customers had stated these sizes are preferable.

At the time of its introduction, the platform supported a single client-side interface: 100 Gigabit Ethernet. Apparently customers have requested more variety, as the platform will now support 10 Gbps and 40 Gbps on the client side as well.

The platform also will accommodate a 48-channel multiplexer on a single line card, as well as what ADVA asserts is the first self-contained data center interconnect amplification line card. The card includes "all necessary components, including an optical supervisory channel," ADVA says in a press release. The amplification card helps the CloudConnect address longer-reach applications, for example, support of 200-Gbps transmission distances of more than 1,200 km.

The company promises further upgrades next year.
