Inphi offers SMT 32-Gbaud coherent quad linear driver

Sept. 30, 2015
Communications semiconductor vendor Inphi Corp. (NYSE: IPHI) used ECOC 2015 in Valencia, Spain, this week to unveil the 32-Gbaud IN3217SZ quad linear differential to single-ended Mach-Zehnder modulator driver. The device, available in a surface mount technology (SMT) package, targets higher volume 100G/200G coherent long haul and metro fiber-optic network applications.

Communications semiconductor vendor Inphi Corp. (NYSE: IPHI) used ECOC 2015 in Valencia, Spain, this week to unveil the 32-Gbaud IN3217SZ quad linear differential to single-ended Mach-Zehnder modulator driver. The device, available in a surface mount technology (SMT) package, targets higher volume 100G/200G coherent long-haul and metro fiber-optic network applications.

The 14x9-mm IN3217SZ directly interfaces to lithium niobate (LiNbO3) or indium ohosphide (InP) MZ modulators. Inphi expects the device, which features what the company describes as a "new low power design," to find use in line card and 4x5, CFP, and CFP2 optical module applications.

"With the widespread adoption of coherent technology underway, devices such as the IN3217SZ enable the higher densities and lower cost solutions the 100G/200G applications require in the industry today," said Andrew Schmitt, principal analyst, carrier transport networking at IHS, via an Inphi press release.

"The networking market needed new lower power linear modulator drivers in smaller package footprints to address the high-volume next-generation applications, and we are pleased today to announce the IN3217SZ as the answer to that need," added Lian Zhao, product line manager, optical interconnect at Inphi via the same announcement. "The IN3217SZ expands the Inphi product portfolio again to address the latest market demands for high-performance, long-haul applications and high-density and volume metro applications for 100G/200G coherent systems."
