Fiber-optic network services provider Alpheus Communications says it will begin the second phase of its planned fiber network extension in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, TX.

This phase of the Texas footprint expansion, part of a project announced last June, will see Alpheus connect an additional 3,000 buildings to its network, bringing the total near-net building count to just over 6,000. Once completed, Alpheus says it will have run fiber-optic cable within reach of more than 40,000 businesses in the three Texas markets. That includes an additional 1,800 near-net buildings in the central business district of Austin.

"Fiber networks are increasingly sought out by businesses because they provide superior quality and incredibly high bandwidth options," said Alpheus CEO Scott Widham. "With this expansion project, we are investing to provide Texas businesses the network infrastructure they need for their Internet, voice, video, and cloud solutions now and in the future.

"Initially, we focused on Houston and Dallas, now we are adding the Austin market based on demand. We look forward to continuing our expansion and bringing high-speed fiber access to more Texas businesses," Widham concluded.

Alpheus' fiber network already connects more than 300 points-of-presence (PoPs) and central offices (COs) across Texas, including owned facilities in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande Valley.
