Tellabs to show 10-Gbps passive optical LAN gear at BICSI Winter
Passive optical LAN technology supplier Tellabs says it will use this week's BICSI Winter Conference & Exhibition to show off a 10 Gigabit Ethernet version of its PON-based offering. The in-house development is designed to ensure that very high bandwidth enterprise and campus network requirements can be met via a passive optical LAN.
When available, the 10GbE capability will offer symmetrical 10-Gbps capabilities. In addition to its booth at BICSI, Tellabs is showing off the technology at its engineering facility in Dallas. The company has not yet revealed when it will make the 10G optical transmission feature generally available.
"With the 10GbE capability of our Optical LAN technology, Tellabs adds another chapter to our pioneering achievements and proves our dedication to shaping next-generation Optical LAN technologies," said Mike Dagenais, Tellabs CEO. "The demonstration at the BICSI Winter event shows that we're ready to meet our customers' evolving connectivity needs, with no network infrastructure rip-and-replace required."
