Real estate development company Metro Development Group (MDG) and cable MSO Bright House Networks say that Bright House will supply symmetrical 1-Gbps broadband access services via fiber to the home (FTTH) to MDG developments in Florida. The first model homes equipped with the high-speed services will be available for viewing this spring, the partners say.

MDG will offer the services to residents of its developments under the brand name ULTRAFi. In addition to high-speed broadband, the FTTH connections also will support home automation and security services.

The location of the planned communities has not yet been revealed.

Bright House hasn’t announced which FTTH technology it will use for the networks, either. The company recently announced it will deploy DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON (DPoE) technology, however (see “Alcatel-Lucent unveils DPoE platform, signs Bright House Networks”), and is known as a proponent of EPON. DPoE is most frequently associated with busiiness services, but could be used to provide residential 1-Gbps services.

"Bright House Networks is pleased to join Metro Development Group in this revolutionary project," stated Nomi Bergman, president of Bright House Networks. "Bright House Networks has designed a fiber-to-the-home network solution for MDG because of the very specific applications the developer has planned for its communities. We are confident both Bright House and MDG can provide superior products and services now and into the future."

"Metro Development Group's ULTRAFi communities will deliver the technology of the future, transforming how communities, businesses, and individuals engage and maneuver throughout their daily lives," said Greg Singleton, president of Metro Development Group. "Residents of ULTRAFi communities will enjoy unparalleled technology services in 2014 and well beyond."
