JSC Fortex deploys ADVA direct-detect metro 100G systems in Moscow

JSC Fortex, a voice and internet service provider in the Moscow area, has deployed the direct-detect based 100G technology from  ADVA Optical Networking in its 3000-km metro fiber-optic network. The deployment will upgrade existing 10G services and prepare for future bandwidth demand from the carrier’s business and residential customers.

The systems house asserts that JSC Fortex asked IT integrators Connect Unit to deploy the ADVA 100G Metro “because of its plug-and-play simplicity, especially when upgrading existing services.” Deployments will continue throughout the year, ADVA says.

“There's a common thread for all of our customers, one common denominator, and that's bandwidth. Enterprise customers, residential customers, the demand for greater data access continues to surge,” said Andrey Varslavan, CTO, JSC Fortex. “What's key for us is speed of response, speed of meeting our customers' demands. We need to ensure that we have the solution they need, when they need it. This is what's so special about the ADVA 100G Metro. We were able to plug this into our network and immediately upgrade current 10G services. The experience was seamless.”

The 4x28-Gbps direct detect option, deliverable on the ADVA FSP 3000, offers a lower cost, less complex alternative to 100-Gbps systems based on coherent transmission technology, ADVA asserts (see “ADVA Optical Networking offers cost-reduced 100-Gbps for metro networks”). The technology will support transmission distance of up to 500 km.

“When talking to our customers, one thing is very clear. They want simplicity. They want ease of use. They want plug and play,” commented Stephan Rettenberger, vice president, Marketing, ADVA Optical Networking. “This is why our ADVA 100G Metro is proving so popular within the industry. For JSC Fortex, this simplicity was critical in upgrading its current 10G services. With an incredibly diverse range of business and residential customers, JSC Fortex couldn't risk any downtime, any costly delays with this upgrade.”
