Transmode unveils Native Packet Optical 2.0 architecture

Transmode Systems AB, a supplier of packet-optical networking equipment, has released an upgraded version of its Native Packet Optical architecture. Native Packet Optical 2.0 provides network operators with a packet-friendly network with industry-leading transport performance, the company claims. Transmode has also added new features including MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) support, MPLS-TP, and Optical Transport Network (OTN) capabilities to its architecture.

Transmode Systems AB, a supplier of packet-optical networking equipment, has released an upgraded version of its Native Packet Optical architecture. Native Packet Optical 2.0 provides network operators with a packet-friendly network with industry-leading transport performance, the company claims. Transmode has also added new features including MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) support, MPLS-TP, and Optical Transport Network (OTN) capabilities to its architecture (although the MPLS-TP functionality was previously announced -- see "Transmode adds MPLS-TP to packet-optical Ethernet Muxponders").

Transmode views Native Packet Optical 2.0 as a significant upgrade to its line of platforms. CE2.0 compliance extends the range of standardized services available from its platforms and enhances interconnect and multi-CoS capabilities. MPLS-TP adds traffic engineering, additional protection schemes, and scalability. The OTN capabilities facilitate interworking with OTN infrastructures and enable creation of core network agnostic aggregation networks.

The new Native Packet Optical 2.0 features are all fully supported by Transmode's Enlighten multi-layer management suite. Enlighten supports point-and-click provisioning across all layers from Layer 0 wavelengths to Layer 2.5 MPLS-TP-based services.
