Chunghwa Telecom using Alcatel-Lucent for GPON

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) says it is working with Chunghwa Telecom to build the country’s first gigabit passive optical network (GPON). The Taiwanese carrier will use the GPON fiber to the home (FTTH) and business network to provide triple-play services to its residential and business customers.

The Taiwanese carrier will use the GPON fiber to the home (FTTH) and business network to provide triple-play services to its residential and business customers.

Commercial operation of the initial phase of Chunghwa’s GPON network should begin by Q3 of 2011.

The systems supplier asserts that Chunghwa Telecom chose Alcatel-Lucent’s GPON equipment for its high efficiency, stability, quality of service, and professional services expertise.

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fiber-to-the-User (ISAM FTTU) platform as well as the Alcatel-Lucent 5520 Access Management System (AMS). Alcatel-Lucent will also provide professional services expertise in the areas of software integration, network management system installation, and commissioning.
