APRIL 30, 2009 -- TeliaSonera International Carrier, a fully owned affiliate of TeliaSonera AB (search Lightwave for TeliaSonera), has selected Infinera (search Lightwave for Infinera) to build a new nationwide network in the United States.
TeliaSonera AB provides landline, mobile, and broadband services to its customers in Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark and also offers services in the emerging markets of Eastern Europe and Asia, including Russia and Turkey. Its international division, TeliaSonera International Carrier, is a pan-European wholesale provider of cross-border IP, voice, and wholesale services. TeliaSonera International Carrier offers services on more than 43,000 km of its own fiber throughout the world. In 2008, TeliaSonera AB had net sales of SEK 104 billion ($12.9 billion) and its customer base included 135 million subscribers in 20 countries.
TeliaSonera International Carrier is upgrading its nationwide US network and deploying the Infinera DTN. Infinera says it was selected by TeliaSonera International Carrier because Infinera's digital architecture and ease of operation will enable TeliaSonera International Carrier to provide superior flexibility and improved quality, responsiveness, and service to its customers in the US wholesale market.
