Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has signed a four-year frame agreement with Thailand's True Corp. to supply an IP transport network.
The systems house describes True as Thailand's fastest growing mobile operator, the country’s leading 3G provider and sole provider of 4G LTE services, as well as the country’s largest Internet and cable service provider. The upgraded metro network will combine True’s mobile, cable, and Internet backhaul onto a common infrastructure. It also will provide optical transport speeds of up to 100G, providing a network evolution from 3G to 4G LTE.
Alcatel-Lucent says the simplified architecture for True's mobile backhaul and broadband network will provide scalability and a single management system as well as one with reduced power and space requirements. True's customers will benefit from increased reliability as well as increased bandwidth access, the vendor asserts.
The agreement encompasses Bangkok, accounting for 65% of Thailand's telecommunications traffic, and overall covers more than 15 million mobile subscribers and more than 1 million broadband households.
Alcatel-Lucent has supplied the following equipment to True for IP routing: the 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR), 7210 Service Access Switch (SAS), 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS), 7750 Service Router (SR), and 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM).
"Today our business is all about quality and cost-efficiency. Alcatel-Lucent's commitment on both key business criteria is strong and is the foundation of our partnership, True looks forward to a long and profitable collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent," Vichaow Rakphongphairoj, managing director and group chief operating officer, True.
