Infinera ICTR64 TROSA (transmit/receive optical subassembly) leverages a monolithic InP photonic integrated circuit to enable monolithically integrated gain functions, unlike conventional TROSAs with discrete building blocks, whether based on silicon photonics or discrete InP functions. In a traditional approach, gain must be realized in a specific function of the TROSA, while in a monolithic one, it can be distributed through the optical functions for a much larger degree of independence and optimization for the designer. Infinera’s TROSA’s monolithic integration supports high-density integration of discrete functions, including PIC, RF ASIC, and TEC cooling, into a single submodule. It also provides leading optical performance with +0 dBm, low out-of-band noise for successful deployment over colorless ROADM architectures, high Tx OSNR, and high Rx sensitivity.

Judge’s Comment: “Very compact 60-Gbd class type 2 IC-TROSA based on a monolithic InP and a single RF die. Compares to similar TROSAs from other manufacturers requiring a more complex setup.”
