Fiber Broadband Association President and CEO Heather Burnett Gold will retire on September 30, 2018, the association says. The Fiber Broadband Association, the trade association formerly known as the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council, named Burnett Gold as its full-time president in 2011, replacing Dan O'Connell (see "Heather Burnett Gold named FTTH Council president"). Burnett Gold has spent more than three decades in the telecommunications industry and seven years leading the Fiber Broadband Association.

The Fiber Broadband Association's announcement states that Burnett Gold was behind what it asserts is the first Community Toolkit Conference and Online Community Toolkit (see "FTTH Council launches online community toolkit"), the industry's first GDP study on the association between economic growth and fiber, research linking fiber's relevance to housing issues, and the first white paper addressing fiber's importance to 5G.

She also has served as a judge for the FTTXcellence Award, a program that recognizes individuals who have advanced the use of optical access technologies in the Americas. The FTTXcellence Award is co-presented by Corning Inc. and Lightwave.

"Heather has been a true leader in our association and prepared us for this next phase of all-fiber deployment, most recently overseeing the rebranding and relaunch of this body as the Fiber Broadband Association," said Scott Jackson, Fiber Broadband Association Board's chairman. "Her commitment to the power of technology to change our communities is a true inspiration to all of us and she has, in my view, accelerated the connected future."

"We expect my replacement as president and CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association to be announced in time for the 2018 Fiber Connect," said Burnett Gold. "It has been an honor to serve as President and CEO, and I cannot overstate how wonderful it has been to work on behalf and with all of the organization's members, partners, and friends."
