Fujitsu details role in ONAP service on demand showcase at MEF17

Fujitsu is taking part in the MEF17 Proof of Concept Showcase with fellow members of the ONAP (Open Network Automation Platform) initiative. The "Service on Demand: Global Virtual Inter-carrier Fabric Orchestrated by LSO APIs with Open-source Framework" proof of concept (PoC) demonstration aims to show the use of ONAP to support automated service delivery via lifecycle service orchestration (LSO) enabled by open source APIs and open systems within an international multivendor, multicarrier context.

Fujitsu is taking part in the MEF17 Proof of Concept Showcase with fellow members of the ONAP (Open Network Automation Platform) initiative (see "Open Source ECOMP, OPEN-O merge to form ONAP Project"). The "Service on Demand: Global Virtual Inter-carrier Fabric Orchestrated by LSO APIs with Open-source Framework" proof of concept (PoC) demonstration aims to show the use of ONAP to support automated service delivery via lifecycle service orchestration (LSO) enabled by open source APIs and open systems within an international multivendor, multicarrier context.

The PoC team includes AT&T, Colt, Orange, Amdocs, and Ciena alongside Fujitsu. Fujitsu is working within the Orange domain of the demonstration, where it has collaborated with Amdocs to enable Layer 2 (Ethernet) closed-loop dynamic bandwidth adjustment. The feature is driven by real-time network analytics through a custom microservice. Fujitsu's role includes:

  • Provision of the company's OpenDaylight-based Virtuora Multivendor SDN Controller and 1FINITY switch, lambda, and transport series blades (see "Fujitsu expands 1FINITY blade family"). The technology supports the demonstration of SDN control of Layer 2 Ethernet Services and Layer 0-1 Open ROADM networking (see "Fujitsu details AT&T Open ROADM field trial participation"; Orange is a member of the Open ROADM MSA).
  • Creation of a network analytics microservice that interfaces to ONAP to demonstrate real-time Layer 2 service assurance. Use of Virtuora enabled the integration with ONAP pre-release code and the MEF LSO framework, Fujitsu asserts.

ONAP is a Linux Foundation project. "We're excited to see our members work together on PoCs to deliver new levels of automation and streamlined service creation," commented Arpit Joshipura, general manager of networking and orchestration for The Linux Foundation. "Just six months ago, this degree of SDN/NFV innovation would not have been possible. That's the power of combining resources and collaborating across 55 members that represent 55% of the world's mobile subscribers."

The MEF and ONAP announced last month a collaboration agreement that aims to accelerate the rollout of agile, assured, and orchestrated services across automated, virtualized, and interconnected networks. The agreement includes work to facilitate development of an LSO Framework and the creation of standardized open LSO APIs.
