Kosc Telecom says it has entered into a long-term investment agreement with service provider Orange for fiber connectivity. According to the agreement, the French telecom operator will start offering fiber optic services to its operator customers this September, with deliveries into January 2018.
The agreement allows Kosc immediate access to Orange's domestic fiber connectivity, which covers mainland France. According to Kosc, this agreement supports the company's plans to serve France's alternative operator ecosystem and increase business connectivity market competition, as the fiber connectivity will enable Kosc to provide fiber technology access to businesses and professionals nationwide.
"Kosc's objective has always been to make fiber more accessible to businesses and professionals, irrespective of their size and budget, so they have a chance to catch up," Antoine Fournier, Kosc Telecom's CEO. "We want fiber to be as accessible as copper (DSL)".
Kosc's previous agreements to advance the business connectivity market include acquiring two independent networks from OVH and Completel in March 2016, and merging the two companies to create connectivity across mainland France (excluding overseas departments). The operator connected over 180 cities, including Paris and Marseille, as well as mid-sized cities such as La Rochelle and Annecy.
In September 2016, Kosc began providing backbone links to its business operator customers. In March, the company launched its broadband ethernet line, and announced plans for its business-oriented fiber services. Kosc chose ADVA Optical Networking in July of this year for its DWDM transport network (see "KOSC Telecom taps ADVA for French nationwide 100-Gbps fiber optic network") to provide customers with up to 16 Tbps optical connectivity. Additionally, Kosc says it rolled out the NOKIA MEF Certified 7750 SR Routers to collect, aggregate, and transport its Ethernet services with up to 100 Gbps connectivity.
