DE-CIX launches new internet exchange in Dallas

Sept. 20, 2016

DE-CIX has announced the launch of its new internet exchange in Dallas. The company says the launch was a direct result of an increasing need for reliable interconnection platforms due to growing consumer demand for clear voice-over-IP and services like video, gaming, and the cloud.

Located at Infomart, the main carrier hotel in Dallas at 1950 Stemmons Freeway, the internet exchange will offer peering exchange services throughout the community and provide a reduced latency for an enhanced end-user experience, DE-CIX says. Platform partners can exchange traffic via Layer 2 connectivity to connect to hundreds of networks instantly with just one port.

"Our initial research shows that there is a tremendous need for a neutral internet exchange that provides access at data centers throughout the area, thus providing a reliable, quality interconnection and peering point to a broader segment of the market," says Ed d'Agostino, vice president of DE-CIX North America Inc.

Customers will also benefit from more control over routing, additional flexibility to route around congested paths, and reduced network costs, the company believes. Carrier and data center-neutral Internet exchanges promise greater reach to all major data center facilities in metro markets, DE-CIX says.

The Dallas facility complements the DE-CIX internet exchange in New York (see "DE-CIX New York adds PoP with CoreSite"). The company also operates internationally (see, for example, "DE-CIX records 5 Tbps in peak traffic at Frankfurt Internet exchange").
