Cisco has revealed that it has delivered DWDM systems to hosting services provider OVH for an ongoing upgrade of the company's data center interconnect fiber network. The systems house says its DWDM platform has seen deployment at more than 100 sites in OVH's network.

OVH, which Cisco describes as the third-largest hosting provider worldwide, serves more than a million customers via 7.4 Tbps of bandwidth across 17 countries and 32 global peering points. The service provider offers cloud, hosting, and web services, including what Cisco asserts is the world's largest network of gaming servers.

The company has seen its cloud services grow 30% since 2011. Cisco says OVH began to upgrade its fiber-optic network in 2015, using the systems house's NCS 2000 DWDM platform, which supports 16QAM-based 200-Gbps wavelengths and long-haul distances.

The data center interconnect infrastructure upgrade continues, with work on OVH's Toronto-Beauharnois and Milan-Strasbourg links currently underway. Two new data centers in the U.S. also are under construction.

"OVH continues to be at the cutting edge of networking," said Octave Klaba, founder and CTO of the service provider. "By leveraging our own data center technology for our servers and our IP and optical networks from Cisco, we're able to deliver a faster, more secure, and more scalable solution for our customers. OVH is ready to be the leader in Digital as a Service in a way that no other cloud hosting company can achieve."
