Lumos Networks offers second gigabit broadband FTTP service in Virginia

Jan. 31, 2016

Mid-Atlantic focused Lumos Networks Corp. says it is now offering gigabit broadband to residential and small business customers in Botetourt County, VA. Lumos is using fiber to the premises (FTTP) technology for the service.

This is the fiber-optic network service provider's second gigabit broadband offering in Virginia. Lumos announced a similar service in Alleghany Highlands in May 2015.

Lumos added that it expects to be able to offer gigabit broadband across its entire ILEC FTTP footprint by the end of this year. The service provider currently operates in 24 markets in Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and Kentucky.

"This announcement only furthers our leading position in this region as customers increasingly migrate to higher broadband applications," said Diego Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of the residential and small business segment for Lumos Networks. "In the third quarter of 2015, the number of Lumos fiber broadband subscribers increased by over 31% year-over-year and the average broadband speed increased by over 50% to nearly 30 Mbps."
