Fiber-optic network based wholesale service provider GlobeNet has unveiled the GlobeNet International Internet Exchange (GNIIX). The service is designed to offer access to the world's largest Internet exchange points (IXPs) through a single port locally.

The GNIIX leverages GlobeNet's submarine cable network system, which links North and South America. GNIIX is available at GlobeNet's cable landing stations, scales from 1 Gbps to 100 Gbps, and offers what GlobeNet asserts is the lowest latency from South America over the operator's dual-ring, self-healing network.

GlobeNet adds the customer-managed GNIIX service is customizable and offers access to IXPs in South America, the United States, and Europe.

"Our customers look to us for reliable, high performance international connectivity that allows for quick and efficient data access and transport," states Erick W. Contag, president and COO of GlobeNet. "GNIIX not only enhances the connectivity options available to our customers, it simplifies the process of connecting to the world's largest IXPs by eliminating the complexities and extra costs of signing separate agreements with each individual Internet exchange to which they require access."

GlobeNet also recently announced a peering agreement with AMS-IX USA (see "AMS-IX USA, GlobeNet partner for North American, LATAM peering").
