NJFX begins construction of Tier 3, carrier-neutral data center
New Jersey Fiber Exchange (NJFX) has put shovel to earth on a new 64,800-square-foot, Tier 3 carrier-neutral data center in Wall, NJ. NJFX is a partnership with Tata Communications Services (America) Inc., and the facility is designed to leverage access to submarine cables that land nearby and connect the U.S. with South America and Europe.
The facility will target needs of service providers, enterprises, carrier-neutral operators, and cable companies, offering direct interconnection options at the cable head-end without recurring cross-connect fees.
The first phase of the data center is anticipated to become operational by 2016. When complete, the facility will boast what the company promises will be “the latest in Tier 3 computing infrastructure design” in collaboration with Bala Consulting Engineers. It will feature more than 1,000 cabinets for carrier-neutral colocation and the necessary capacity to address high-density power needs. This last requirement will be fulfilled via direct access to an existing on-site Jersey Central Power & Light substation, which will provide an additional 9 MW of reserve capacity. Tenants will be offered power densities ranging from 2 to 16 kW per cabinet.
NJFX asserts the data center will also provide global connectivity to more than 240 countries and territories via Tata Communications' global undersea cable network, one of the largest and most advanced in the world. Tata will make available an exclusive, carrier-neutral meet-me room (MMR) operator inside its Wall international Cable Landing Station (CLS).
"We are now securing express routes with several facilities-based carriers such as Sunesys, who delivers dark fiber connections to NJFX from the U.S.'s busiest telecom hubs, including Ashburn, VA, 401 North Broad St. in Philadelphia, PA, and Piscataway, NJ, as well as all of New Jersey's prominent financial exchanges," adds Gil Santaliz, NJFX founder and managing member.
