EdgeConneX to add NWAX node to Portland, OR Edge Data Center

Edge hosting service supplier EdgeConneX says it has reached an agreement with Northwest Access Exchange (NWAX) to build a new remote NWAX node into the EdgeConneX Portland, OR Edge Data Center (EDC). When it becomes operational, a milestone EdgeConneX expects to reach in the fourth quarter of this year, the node will offer Portland EDC customers connectivity to NWAX's participants.

Edge ConneX says it will link the new data center node at the Portland EDC, located at 23245 NW Evergreen Parkway in nearby Hillsboro, OR, to the NWAX Core Switch, located at 921 SW Washington Street in Portland, with dark fiber.

Founded in 2001 by Oregon Health & Science University and broken out into a nonprofit 501c(6) member controlled entity in 2014, NWAX currently has 72 members and is the fourteenth largest IX in the country. It serves a varied roster of wireless carriers, service providers, content delivery networks (CDNs), enterprises, healthcare providers, and government organizations.

EdgeConneX is donating a high-quality switching platform and dark fiber backhaul, which will optimize this extension site for high-bandwidth member connections. "As a member-controlled nonprofit, NWAX focuses on helping the region grow the network economy in a facility/provider/vendor-agnostic way."
