Japan Internet Exchange taps XKL to increase network capacity in Tokyo

One of the larger Internet exchanges in Japan, the Japan Internet Exchange Co., Ltd. (JPIX), has selected XKL's DQM10-12 Optical Transport Systems to increase network capacity in Tokyo.

One of the larger Internet exchanges in Japan, the Japan Internet Exchange Co., Ltd. (JPIX), has selected XKL's DQM10-12 Optical Transport Systems to increase network capacity in Tokyo.

With more than 100 global customers, including cable operators, ISPs, and content providers, JPIX serves as a neutral exchange point for Internet traffic in Japan.

The new DarkStar system adds capacity to JPIX's existing fiber-optic network, also based on optical transport systems provided by XKL (see "Japan Internet Exchange selects XKL’s optical transport system to power network"), and offers a native 40 Gigabit Ethernet client interface. "What's more, the DarkStar management interface for the DQM10-12 is identical to the existing XKL products we have so there was no learning curve," notes Takejiro Takabayashi, JPIX's chief engineer.

"JPIX purchased one of the first of the DQM10 product line and will be among the first organizations to employ the new systems," says Chad Lamb, XKL's engineering director.

The DarkStar DQM10-12 supports 120G of capacity into a single 1-RU appliance, with 240G and 360G 1-RU products scheduled to come out later this year.
