Florida-based ISP Joytel Communications has signed a long-term agreement with Allied Fiber for dark fiber and neutral colocation services. Joytel expects to leverage its new assets to provide Internet access and fiber-optic network services to underserved areas on the East Coast of Florida that complement its existing wireless broadband offerings.

Allied Fiber will supply the dark fiber and colocation services via its new southeast route (see "Allied Fiber begins installation of Miami-to-Atlanta fiber-optic network route"). The first section, between Miami and Jacksonville, FL, is already operational. The remainder, which extends to Atlanta, should be up and running by this June, Allied Fiber says. The southeastern route is part of what Allied Fiber envisions as a nationwide dark fiber and colocation network (see "Allied Fiber to construct nationwide dark fiber cable system").

Joytel will expand its service offerings as the Allied Fiber infrastructure grows. The service provider will begin at the Jacksonville network access point and connect to St. Augustine and Palm Coast in Northern Florida, then extend southward to Miami.

"Expanding our network footprint by connecting with Allied Fiber strengthens our service offerings across the board," said Mark Marques, CEO and founder of Joytel Communications. "We are delighted to work with Allied Fiber to offer existing and new customers, across a variety of industries, the highest-quality network solutions available."
