Global interconnection and data center company Equinix has deployed the Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) DTN-X packet optical transport system to support its activities in Frankfurt, Toronto, and Singapore, according to the systems provider.

Equinix operates its International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in 32 markets across 15 countries in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific. The IBX data centers provide interconnection services to service providers, enterprises, and other clients. The company is a longstanding Infinera customer (see "Equinix taps Infinera for metro networks in North America and Asia"), and a representative of the company participated in the unveiling of Infinera's Cloud Xpress platform last year (see "Infinera tackles metro on two fronts"). However, this is the first announced deployment of the DTN-X by the company.

The deployment positions Equinix to support 100-Gbps data center interconnection.

"Equinix continues to invest in strengthening the underlying infrastructure of our IBX data centers, which will increase our ability to anticipate and serve our customers' needs," said Ihab Tarazi, Equinix CTO. "With Infinera's Intelligent Transport Networks we are able to deliver rapid service, increase flexibility within our ever-expanding global footprint, and leverage SDN-ready features for network automation capabilities."
