Fujitsu unveils 100G coherent CFP for metro networks

Fujitsu Optical Components Ltd. (FOC) says it has successfully developed a 100G coherent CFP coherent optical transceiver that supports the up to 1,000-km transmission distance needed in metro network applications. This product will be released in the first half of 2015, the company says.

It’s not the first product of its type to reach the market - Acacia Communications, has already claimed that accolade. Acacia announced this week that its 100G CFP transceiver is now shipping.

The Japanese vendor says its new product is based on the 100G coherent CFP transceiver multi-source agreement commonly used in 100 Gigabit Ethernet optical transceivers.

FOC has employed the low-power 100G digital signal processing chip (LP-DSP) from NTT Electronics Corp. to compensate for waveform distortion. Compact semiconductor optical modulators and integrated coherent receivers that were developed in-house are also used in the module. The module remains highly stable across environmental changes, the company claims.

Other innovations include high-density mounting and the use of circuit design technology that reduces the circuit scale, which have enabled a reduction in size of 50% and a reduction in volume of 60% when compared to the first generation (5x7-inch) coherent transceivers, according to FOC.
