Vello Systems Inc., which has evolved its focus from optical transport systems (see "Vello Systems picks up where OpVista left off with CX16000") to include software-defined networking (SDN; see "Vello Systems offers OpenFlow-based VellOS 7.0 operating system"), has opened dedicated offices in Northern Ireland as part of its strategy to significantly expand its software and applications development capabilities in the region.

The site opening sees the next step in an ongoing process to position Vello more prominently in the European market and will allow the business to grow by 71 new jobs in Belfast over a three-year period, the company says.

Vello President and CEO Karl May commented that he was swayed after meeting representatives of other U.S. technology companies that had set up here, such as the world's third largest software company, SAP.

“The European market represents a huge opportunity for Vello as a company and the opening of our Belfast operation shows our dedication to growing our presence in Europe and championing the uptake of applications and new network software architectures as genuinely ‘new’ business enablers,” said May.

“The opportunity for standards-based applications to control underlying networks is a truly exciting area of the tech industry to be involved in at the moment. By opening our doors to the first major office for product development and real engineering outside the U.S. it represents a genuine commitment to building a European focus and advancing the uptake of cloud services in the enterprise and managed service provider space,” May concluded.

Vello received support towards the creation of the 71 jobs from Invest Northern Ireland.
