Integra fiber route links Salt Lake City to Sacramento

Fiber-optic network services provider Integra Telecom Inc. says it has enabled a long-haul fiber-optic network route directly connecting Salt Lake City, UT, to Sacramento, CA.

Fiber-optic network services provider Integra Telecom Inc. says it has enabled a long-haul fiber-optic network route directly connecting Salt Lake City, UT, to Sacramento, CA.

The 865-mile route will deliver high-bandwidth, low-latency transport to Integra metro networks in those cities as well as Reno, NV, and the San Francisco Bay Area via Integra's 100-Gbps long-haul fiber backbone (listen to “Integra reviews its 100G rollout”). Combined, Integra's long-haul network now exceeds 6000 route miles across the Western United States.

By providing a direct east-west connection from Northern California through Nevada into Utah, Integra says its new route increases bandwidth and dramatically reduces network latency for data centers, enterprises, wholesale partners, and others located within or adjacent to this fast-growing region. In addition, the new route enhances Integra's offering by enabling new network diversity, protection, and business continuity.

Integra says its high-speed backbone offers maximum transport efficiency for wide-area networks, private cloud and hybrid cloud infrastructures, as well as customers using Integra's enterprise services such as Wavelengths Services and other managed and cloud services.

"This route provides the perfect complement to our existing long-haul and metro fiber in the region," said Dan Stoll, Integra's vice president of corporate development. "We're confident in the value this strategic route will add for new and existing customers in the enterprise, government, and wholesale segments in support of their network and cloud-based solutions."

This is the first of many investments in network expansion Integra plans for 2014, the company says. Integra says it is accepting orders for access to the network segment.
