Optical Technology Training updates Certified Optical Network Engineer training course

Oct. 6, 2013
UK-based fiber-optic training specialist Optical Technology Training Ltd. (OTT) has developed an updated Certified Optical Network Engineer training program. The new Next Generation Certified Optical Network Engineer (NG-CONE) course builds on the foundation of the Certified Optical Network Associate course that covers the technologies involved with optical networking at data rates up to 10 Gbps to address the emerging generation of high-speed fiber-optic network technologies aimed at 40 Gbps and higher.

Several new technologies are advancing very quickly as network operators deploy data rates of 40 Gbps, 100 Gbps, and beyond, according to OTT. These include the alphabet soup of DP-QPSK, 16-QAM, NG-CDC-ROADMs and more. Meanwhile, important new concepts such as flexible grid and SDN have received significant hype.

The five-day NG-CONE course covers these technologies from an unbiased, vendor neutral perspective, says the company. Using interactive case studies and OTT’s WhizzieKit Virtual Optical Network Training System, trainees will learn about the challenges of delivering exponential growth in network capacity, while keeping an eye on latency issues, capital costs, operational costs, and environmental issues.

The basis for the certification is a closed book exam and completion of a practical assignment, conducted at the end of the course.
